When I began working full-time in 2009, I was invited to join the union, which I subsequently did. Although I may lack the experience to contribute as fully as the other members, I believe it is nevertheless important to be a member, especially considering Japanfs current educational situation. It is not uncommon these days to hear about staff and budget cutbacks, or university closures or mergers. As a result, teachers may have to take on extra responsibilities, teach larger classes, or they may even lose valuable funding, all of which can affect the level of education and research at the institution. By joining the union, I have added one extra voice to a network of teachers who are striving to maintain the working conditions and improve upon them, and to create a more democratic environment in which all teachers can share their opinions and work together to make our university a better one. I therefore urge all teachers, especially those who have just started working, to join the union and add your voice to the community. Itfs your future, and you can help us ensure itfs a bright one.

I am from the United States, where workers have few rights or protections. The gap between rich and poor continues to grow larger, and large numbers of working people are struggling. It has always been relatively easy for companies to fire people, and that has not changed, but now it is getting easier for companies to take away peoplefs pensions. Compared to the United States, things here in Japan are much better. However, even here slowly but surely workersf rights are being chipped away, and the gap between rich and poor is growing. The only effective way to stop this gradual encroachment is for unions to stand up for workersf rights. If you are concerned about the direction Japan is headed and are concerned about securing your rights, join the union today and ensure a bright future for you and your family.
